APP'D FOR, and the serial number 352171 (from 1952). Above the serial number is the letter "E" (to designate Eb Alto) and below the serial number is the letter "L" (stands for Low Pitch). The sax comes in it's original case, marked with a Conn badge on the side. In addition to the mouthpiece, I also found a lyre-shaped music holder, strap, cork grease, and an extra reed inside the case. I'm not a saxophone player, but I've read that the 6M is a legendary model that is prized and sought after among collectors and performers alike.
They have a great mellow sound not found in modern instruments. As testimony of their quality construction and design, vintage Conn saxophones are often seen today in the hands of top professionals as the "instrument of choice", and many of the innovations first pioneered by the Conn company are found on instruments produced today by manufacturers around the world.Condition of this classic saxophone is VERY GOOD. It has it's original finish with a few small spots of wear to the lacquer, primarily on the keys. I see a few minor dents and dings, but nothing significant or distracting. The cork on the neck has some loss on one side. I didn't dare try cleaning the finish.
The pads appear to be in good shape, but the sax hasn't been played to test for leaks. The case shows significant wear with some scuffs to the leather edges. The latches and handle are in good functional condition. Since I'm not a saxophone player myself, I can not attest to its sound.
The keys appear to operate properly. I suspect the instrument will need to be cleaned and lubed to get it in perfect playing condition. I don't think it will take much, however, as the instrument appears to have been well cared for. Overall, it's in remarkably good original condition for its age. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself.
