For sale is an INSANELY rare Selmer Serie 22 alto saxophone with serial #898... This is actually Selmer Paris saxophone serial #898..My jaw is completely dropped that this saxophone exists in my hands, let alone in the world.... Selmer saxophone production as we no it starts at serial #750.
There are no records of Selmer Saxophones 1 thru 750.. During this time was the prototype era. Henri was working with Adolph saxophone on developing the saxophone and working things out to become the modern saxophone as we no it.
Selmer does not have any records and there aren't really any pictures or information about serial numbers 1 thru 750. Each one of these saxophones was a different variant. Were these numbers saxophone Adolph Sax x Henri were collabing on? Did they all say Selmer on them? Did they say Adolph sax? From time to time on an extremely rare basis there have been a couple examples of Selmer Saxophones popping up pre 750. They dont look like the Model 26s and Model 28s of the world, rather much earlier. Starting at serial #750 is when the Selmer production saxophone as we no it starts.
Selmer records start at #750 and thats the kick off production line of the Selmer company as we no it. Starting at #750 Selmer came out with the Serie 22 model. This was made in 1922 once 1923 hit Selmer introduced the Model 22, which was made for a few years. There were exactly 390 Serie 22 made... Out of those there were different variants, alto, C melody, perhaps a tenor or soprano.. This saxophone is just shy 100 years old...
There were 390 made 100 years ago, as the first Selmer production model ever. WOW does it get any rarer than this? Does it get any cooler then this!!
All things considering this saxophone is in incredible condition with its factory silver plating still intact, with beautiful engraving and Selmer stamping. This saxophone even comes with its original mouthpiece!!! Branded just as so, with the rare metal band un cracked this mouthpiece is just as rare as the horn! This sax has its very rare Selmer white pads untouched so there was no chance of me working on this saxophone. Thats a decision the next owner can make. This saxophone has its fair share of scratches, knicks, dings, dents, fleabites, metal wear, tarnish, and other anomalies associated with such an old antique. The Bb bis key appears to be cut in half. Im unsure if this was something Selmer did at the factory, or if a player did this after the fact. This is an incredibly rare chance to lock down one of the rarest Selmer's possible. Its hard to put a number on this saxophone but for sure this sax in not comparable to any other Selmer out there. The model 22s 26s 28s of the world don't even compare here!
