Meyer Bros New York 4M Alto Sax Mouthpiece - this is the Holy Grail of alto mouthpieces. This is the real deal! Early NY Meyer Bros with rounded inner side walls and the 4/M on opposite sides of the table. These pieces were known for having a fantastic hard rubber compound and as such were and still are played by some of the best musicians around. As you can see, there is a lot of discoloration - this is common when it gets cleaned with hot water. The color does NOT impact playing. All markings remain clear and intact. The piece was stored with a reed and ligature which is why some parts of the mouthpiece have retained its original color. You can also see that it was always played with a patch which I have removed. Beak is smooth with no indents. The table is flat and shows no signs of work. There is a small knick on the table but reeds still seal nicely. Tip and rails are even and it has that characteristic Meyer rollover baffle. Plays with a really sweet sound.
Can be played as is or sent out to be opened up. I dont have a gauge but this feels very much like my newer Meyer 5M that was refaced by Theo Wanne to a 76. Plays well with Java 3 reeds. Go from classical to lead alto with ease - very versatile and super collectible.
