Check out my other items. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. His listing is for an Ernie Northway hand finished alto saxophone mouthpiece. Northway is not the most well known mouthpiece maker, but he has been quietly handcrafting excellent mouthpieces for over 40 years. I first became aware of Mr.

Northway through my private teacher when I was in high school. He used a custom made Northway, and advised me to order one as well. I did, and I still use that as my main mouthpiece 20+ years later! I have picked up a handful more over the years, including this one, and they have all been great. Unlike many other makers, Northway has pretty much stuck to one basic design.

I'd liken it to a Meyer on steroids! The interior is very similar to the classic Meyer, with one big difference... The epoxy wedge baffle, which gives it a ton of projection. Whereas vintage Meyers were the standby for big band players in the 1940's through the 60's, this is a mouthpiece that can project through a modern big band (or any other contemporary playing situation). When pushed, this can be more of a screamer than any of the high baffle metal mouthpieces out there, yet it is also easy to control at low volume. It really is the best of both worlds! This piece is in excellent used condition. The tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth. There is some tooth scratching on the beak, but no indentations. The file marks that you see on the table and inside of the mouthpiece are original, not indicative of it having been refaced. I have seen many of Ernie's mouthpieces over the years, and they all exhibit this to one degree or another. The tip opening of this piece measures. 072, which is just about equal to a modern Meyer #5 which should measure. There is an ID number inscribed on the shank by Mr.

Northway, and it is also marked "Hand Finished". This is a great opportunity to get a truly handmade mouthpiece crafted by the actual person whose name it bears! The item "ERNIE NORTHWAY HAND FINISHED ALTO SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECE.
