His listing is for a vintage Brilhart mouthpiece for Eb alto saxophone. It is a hard rubber version, as indicated on the shank. It is a later one, so it is basically the same design as the Ebolin/Tonalin models, with flat inner side walls. There is a small font serial number on the side, but I can't make out the last few digits. It starts with 665, then???
It is stamped 3 on top, but it MAY have been opened up a little. I'm not sure either way, so I mention this just to err on the side of caution. If it was, it is a very good job. The rails are nice and thin, and evenly balanced. 071 on my Theo Wanne mouthpiece gauge, which is right around what a #3 Brilhart normally is (if there is such a thing as'normal' for Brilhart), so if it was opened, it wasn't by much. For reference, this is equal to a Meyer 5 or a Selmer C.
If it was worked on, it would have only been on the curve of the facing. The table is definitely original, as it still retains the'cloudy' look these came from the factory with. This piece is in excellent condition. The tip and rails are nice and smooth, and there are no tooth marks on the beak. It has been cleaned/sanitized, so it is ready to use. This is a great piece for the serious jazz alto saxophonist.
It is perfect for lead alto in a big band or jazz combo, as well as any type of commercial work.
